What is Shift4Shop?

The Shift4Shop toolbox is designed to enable users to create an effective eCommerce strategy that attracts visitors, retains customers, and raises profits. The vendor states that to make use of the Shift4Shop toolbox, users can:

  • Use themes for the site, then customize the frontend and backend as much with responsive designs, so they can function on screens of any size and dimensions.
  • Collect statistics on customer satisfaction, number of conversions, number of page hits, audience reach, and search engine optimization (SEO). The vendor states the information can be used to improve a website and eCommerce strategy.
  • Implement automation tools for tedious or repetitive tasks.
  • Combine several different page speed optimization methods to decrease load times throughout a website. Many internet users abandon websites if they believe that they take too long to load, so boosting page speed encourages visitors to stay and surf through pages.
  • Add more pages and keyword-rich content to a website with a business blog. Running a blog can accomplish many purposes: posts can attract new readers, establish the writer’s reputation as an authority in an industry, increase a website’s SEO value with the proper use of the right keywords, and promote new products.
  • Increase a website’s position on search engine results pages for particular keywords using a variety of SEO tools. These include the ability to change page URLs, customize page title attributes, and edit meta tags.
  • Integrate a site with Google Tools, which provides assistance with making sites comply to search engines’ standards. Its integrations let users connect with many of the tech giant’s services, including (but not limited to) Google Pay, Google Shopping, Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Google Merchant Center.
  • With the Reward Points Module, users can create a loyalty system that awards people “reward points,” based on the amount they spend for a purchase. They can spend these points on future purchases, enticing them to return — and encourage people they know to check out a site.
  • With the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) module, people can ask for help and can directly assist them and address their concerns. The module keeps track of every interaction and organizes them so they can be referred back to them in the future.
  • Give customers the ability to create a gift registry. This enables them to make and share a wish list of items related to a special event, such as a baby shower or a wedding. Their guests can anonymously purchase those items for the host through the registry, which is updated to show everyone that someone has already laid claim to that gift.

Customers have turned to 3DCart as their ecommerce website platform, despite its outdated infrastructure and complicated site structure. For those who are not experienced in running an online business, 3DCart serves as a comprehensive solution, acting as a website, shopping cart, and marketing tool for online stores. Some users have found success utilizing features like fraudwatch, marketing, and upselling. However, for others, 3DCart did not offer the robustness they needed compared to other options like Shopify, WordPress, Magento, and BigCommerce. Some users have experienced problems with checkout and payment processing, leading to financial losses and frustration with customer support. Additionally, frequent system updates have negatively impacted the service and website quality, often causing malfunctions that require frequent fixes and maintenance. Despite these challenges, some users have remained loyal to 3DCart for their ecommerce needs.

Affordability: Many users have found the eCommerce platform to be relatively cheap, especially since it has been updated after being purchased by Shift4. They appreciate the cost-effectiveness of the platform.

Strong shopping cart capabilities: Several reviewers appreciate the platform's strong shopping cart capabilities, including its ability to handle various types of promotions and discounting. Users find it easy to set up promotions and implement campaigns, making their online selling experience seamless.

Easy product setup: Multiple users are satisfied with the ease of setting up products on the platform. They mention that options for categories and classes make the process even simpler, allowing anyone - regardless of programming skills - to effortlessly add and manage their products. This user-friendly feature streamlines their business operations on 3dcart.

Disorganized and Confusing Page Structure: Some users have expressed frustration with the disorganized and confusing page structure, making it difficult for them to find where to go to make page edits.

Lack of Robust Base Platform: Several reviewers have mentioned that the base platform is not very robust and lacks necessary capabilities such as CRM, Taxes, and reporting, limiting their ability to effectively manage their online stores.

Primitive File System with Cumbersome Navigation: The file system is described as primitive by users, with a cumbersome navigation system that lacks sort functions. This makes it challenging for users to efficiently manage their files and locate specific items.

Users recommend Shift 4 Shop for smaller companies due to its user-friendly plug and go templates. They also mention that it is free and offers more features than Ecwid.

Reviewers suggest considering 3Dcart for small stores with potential for growth. They praise its built-in inventory management and easy integration with other software. They also highlight its ease of use and the ability to sell on third-party market websites. However, some users express frustration with this platform.

Customers advise selecting a 3dCart plan that closely matches one's needs to ensure cost and feature alignment. They note that 3dCart is a versatile shopping cart solution that can handle both basic and advanced requirements. Additionally, they recommend trying their free trial and consulting with their knowledgeable staff before making a decision.

We have been using Shift4Shop for close to 15 years , back when it was called 3D cart over. In my experience, back then it was good service , and Values was there , SEO was fantastic . In my opinion, once Shift4Shop took over, it became a steady decline in quality and SEO is now the very worst.
  • In my opinion, charge you too much for what it is worth
  • In my opinion, tech support is always blaming client and end up fixing it own issues
  • In my experience, make you believe client is important
  • Stability
  • Better updates
  • No multilingual
To be honest me as a 15 as a client, I think it is hard to find anything good about Shift4Shop. I think they look like a lower-cost alternative, but having a non-functional site doesn’t help your own business grow. In my experience, 3Dcart was a fairly good experience before it was taken over by Shift4Shop.
I cant honestly thing of anything positive .

  • Website seldom have bugs that prevent any client to purchase
  • In my opinion, website dosent have very good modern feature
  • no provision to use export information by product is selling to other countries
  • multi language is run from google translator , making it , in my opinion, unsuitable for any professional work
Woo commerce did not exist when we selected 3Dcar/Shift4Shop
-Shift4Shop does not perfectly integrated into your own website
-In my opinion, Shift4Shop SEO is poor
- In my opinion, Shift4Shop is expensive considering the low value it provides.
- In my opinion, Shift4Shop is not a true modern selling platform. I think anyone telling you this had not explored anything else lately .
I think there is no reason to go with Shift4Shop , really !

Because they are, in my experience, unable to maintain a working environment .
Client contact us telling us the site is not letting them place orders . We have to check multiple times a day our store is still working .
In my experience, they have removed email support , and we had to find a 3rd party to use it with our store at an extra cost , let alone the resource to make it happen. In my experience, they basically abandon you and send you instruction on how to make it work .

We stated using them 15 years ago , now, in my opinion, they are definitely not worth anything. There are so many new and up to date system out there , why waste time with an outdated service. Web presence is already hard enough, why waste time with a company that is not interested in helping you be your best ?
Initially it was difficult to manage the UI to the client, and then hard to change anything , unless you used the boring and too generic templates . Their template selection is very limited , that are basically all the same with different background images and colours .
If you are unfortunate to have been a long-time client, you will have to completely rebuild your store, because old templates are not supported anymore .
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
  • website bugs and refresh not working when making any changes
You always manage to fins someone, but, in my experience, resolving issues are not an easy task. Why do we pay for a service , and then spend time trouble shooting constantly with them ??
In my experience, they eliminate features , send you an email what you can use instead, with instructions most people cant do without an IT guy . It feel more like an open source than a true integrated service.
Is there really premium support LOL

One of the clients we signed on about 3 or 4 years ago came on board with this as their ecommerce website. We suggested a move to a different platform we were more familiar with, but they were very married to 3DCart, so we learned how to use that platform. The learning curve was a bit high, as 3DCart's infrastructure is a bit old-hat (think ASP.net platforms of the early 2000s). But, in the end we got pretty comfortable with making changes. That being said, the site structure and the places in which to make those changes were very complicated. Also, adding any functionality to the base platforms requires additional plug-ins (which aren't as plentiful as something like Wordpress); and many of those cost money in both licenses and integration development.
  • eCommerce platform for relatively cheap
  • Since being purchased by Shift4, some updates have been added
  • Page structure is all over the place. It can be difficult to find where to go to make page edits.
  • Base platform isn't very robust and requires multiple add-ons in order to add CRM, Taxes, and other capabilities
  • Reporting isn't very strong, necessitating outside analytics
  • File system is also pretty wonky and feels very primitive
  • Customer service and technical help leaves MUCH to be desired.
  • Not as many supported add-ons/plug-ins as other platforms, and many of them cost additional fees. Many of them also don't seamlessly integrate, meaning you'll need to dev the integration yourself.
  • In general, what you see in the WYSIWYG is not what you get.
  • Order System is not very intuitive for the modern era
3dcart/Shift4 Shop may be useful if you're used to that platform. I don't really see too many advantages of it compared to other platforms, but it may be less expensive than some of the more popular ecommerce platforms. It certainly is cheaper than an enterprise system, but you don't get nearly the capabilities or polish. I would put it on par with ASP.net and other similar programs of that era, with maybe a little more polish and robustness.

  • For the subscription license of the base product, the cost isn't bad.
  • The development time is heavy, which outweighs the cost of the license
  • Small, everyday changes and updates are a lengthy affair, which means more labor hours.
  • Additional software is needed (labor + licensing) to compete with modern site platforms (CRM, Accounting, Shipping, Taxes, marketing, Abandoned cart, etc.)
I would put 3dcart (now Shift4Shop) on the same level of AspDotNetStorefront. Its primitive, old hat, but still works. Lightspeed and Pinnacle cart are a little better, as they are a little more polished but also not as fine-tuned as an Enterprise System. Squarespace and WooCommerce are very simple to use, but also require some additional integrations to make fully functional. BigCommerce has most of the functionality built in for an ecommerce site, but comes with an enterprise price. If you're on a budget, you're better with going off something widely supported, but budget-minded.

3dcart is one of two eCommerce programs I recommend/use for clients looking to implement an online store. It is easy to set up and use and a good value for the dollar for those that are not experienced with running an online store.
  • SEO - 3dcart is built in such a way that even if you do no SEO work at all, as long as you use the meta description wizard on each page or product you wind up still searching pretty well in Google.
  • Product uploads - Product uploads are easy to do with 3dcart's .csv import/export feature. No need to struggle with messy simple and variable uploads like on WooCommerce, 3dcart takes the guesswork and hassle out of uploading different product types.
  • Media uploads - Media uploads are quick and simple and the uploader always works.
  • 3dcart does not connect to many of the POS systems my clients use so we need to manually update inventory daily/weekly.
  • There are many modules available to do many different things, but it makes you feel like you are being tickled and died to death to get the site to do exactly what you want. Also can be confusing if you don't know what you actually need.
  • It's a little difficult/confusing to upload products with multiple variations - ie: color and size - especially if there are multiples colors and multiple sizes.
3dcart works well for small to medium size businesses that want to take care of their own website and product uploads and have the time to stay on top of inventory management. It does not work as well for a business who wants to just "turn it on" and forget about it unless they are able to integrate their POS system with 3dcart to manage inventory.

  • 3dcart has enabled my clients to quickly and easily get up and running with an online store giving them an almost immediate ROI.
I found 3dcart to be the most cost effective and easiest to use for my smaller to medium sized business clients.
